This scholarship, proudly administered through the Goals Initiative, pays homage to the enduring legacy of Sharon C. Murphy—an ardent champion of education and community advancement. Scholarship Requirements & Application

This scholarship is designed to empower individuals who have been affected by domestic violence and fall within specific categories:

  1. High school seniors or college students aged 17-25 who have lost one or both parents to domestic violence.

  2. Survivors of domestic violence aged 17-25 who are single.

  3. Survivors of domestic violence aged 17-35 who are single parents.

Eligible candidates must fulfill the following prerequisites to be considered for this scholarship:

  • Be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Oklahoma or Virginia.

  • Possess a clean criminal record with no history of violent offenses.

  • Currently be enrolled in an accredited technical school, college, or university.

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.

  • Provide a recent transcript copy.

  • Secure a referral from an approved source, such as a guidance counselor, case manager, behavioral health/social professional, crisis center, or clergy.

  • Submit a letter of recommendation from a faculty or staff member at their educational institution.

  • Demonstrate financial need.

  • Present a 500-word essay outlining their academic and career aspirations.

It is essential to understand that meeting these requirements does not automatically guarantee the scholarship. The selection committee will meticulously assess all applications, considering factors such as academic achievements, community involvement, leadership roles, and essay quality.

High school seniors below the age of 17 are also eligible to apply.

Scholarship Application Timeline

Spring Application Period:

  • Open: November 1st

  • Close: January 31st

Fall Application Period:

  • Open: May 1st

  • Close: July 31st
